in Washington Twp., Tippecanoe County, IN. Electea's parents

WILLIAM
WESLEY CORNELL , a representative of one of the old an
d honored pioneer families of Tippecanoe County, resides in
Washington Township, where he has a farm of seventy-seven
and a half acres. His father, HELI CORNELL, was born
in Onondago, New Yor k, in 1786, his father being a native
of Wales, and a soldier du ring the Revolutionary war. When
HELI CORNELL was in his boy hood , his father removed with
his family to Canada, but subsequently returned to New York
State. HELI CORNELL was reared a farmer, an occupation he
followed through life. He was married in New York State, to
ELECTRA LATHROP, and to them were born thirteen children,
six sons and seven daughters, and of this once numerous family
but three are living: LAURA A., wife of JOSEPH DICKY
, of Mahaska County, Iowa; LOIS AMELIA, widow of JOHN HOFFMAN,
a nd WILLIAM WESLEY, the subject of this sketch. HELI
CORNELL subsequently removed with his family to Ohio, and
later to Clarke County, Illinois, and in 1835 came to Tippecanoe
County, Indiana , and entered land on section 14, in Washington
Township, which he cleared and improved, residing here until
his death, November 7, 1869. His widow survived his death
but a few months, dying June 24, 1870. HELI CORNELL was a
typical pioneer, an honest, industrious citizen, and was respected
by all who knew him. I n politics he was a Whig until the
organization of the Republican party, with which he affiliated
until his death. He and his wife had lived together for about
sixty years, and for many year s both were earnest and devoted
members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
