reference wm:
  vtwm
  - built-in virtual pager & window list

  - only problem i had w/ it was that it occasionally crashed 
    whenever mouse was activated after a long period (~10-24 hours)
    of inactivity, regardless of (apm|apmd) status. could be related to
    xscreensaver. who knows? X server was XFree86_Mach64 (v 3.3.6)

    that was on freebsd 3.2-release w/ binary 3.4-stable upgrade packages
    installed. i have yet to experience any problem  w/ 3.5-stable
    (made world).


test environment:
  - freebsd 3.5-stable
  - amd k6-2 233 MHz, 32MB RAM, 3.2 GB hard disk, 128 MB swap
  - XF86_Mach64.xtt
  - negligible load

  - vtwm, fvwm, fvwm2, blackbox
    (all the software was compled on this machine from ports collection)

  - open windows: 3 aterm windows, xconsole, rclock, xload, 1 netscape window
    (whenrever possible: virtulal pager w/ 6 pages/desktops and window 
    list; blackbox doesn't have window list like fvwm* or vtwm)


more than 1 top entry:
  - i checked top more than 1 time to ensure that the results are almost
    same.

  - only for fvwm & fvwm2, 2d set of results indicate the change after 
    adding entries to the root menu.


conclusion:
  given follwoing top results, if everything is needed
  (including small sizes, (physical & memory) then vtwm seems to be 
  prefereable.
 
  if can live w/o window list & virtual pager, blackbox is a 
  good choice since it does have built in sense of more than 
  1 desktops

  if can live w/ lone/simple wm than fvwm comes up as the best choice.
  but then, there may be other/better choices
