IBM Thinkpad T42 is quite happily running FreeBSD 6-STABLE (2007.04.08.19.20.49 UTC) currently.
Dell Inspiron 5000e has been running FreeBSD 5-STABLE -- w/ Intel PRO/100 SR NIC & Linksys PCMLM56 card -- which i have been wanting to change to 6.x ... sometime.
Internet connection is provied by a cable modem mediated by SMC Barricade 7004ABR router, sometimes via Linksys WRT54G wireless router (connected to SMC router as a switch).
I use Cvsup to update the operating system and the ports collection. Perl along w/ other Unix tools -- grep, awk, find, etc. -- come in use for administration and maintenance of the system.
For web development, Apache 1.3 server runs on localhost. Perl one liners come in very handy to edit files.
Let's not forget Vi/VIM which are used to edit various files on the site. For graphics, screenshots and such, i use Xv and Gimp.
Bash 3 is my interactive/login shell. Sometimes i flirt w/ KornShell (ksh93) only to return to bash ... perhaps due to ease of bash for interactive use.
After playing w/ various window managers -- XFCE, Wmx, UDE, Blackbox, (T)VTWM, FVWM -- i have settled on FVWM 2 due to ease and flexibility of key bindings. Only drawback is extra modules, and thus larger combined binary and memory size when compared to tvtwm. See xinitirc and wm comparison (quite dated i say) for more details.
