| When aircraft landed at Khe Sanh the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) often
rocketed and mortared the airstrip. Planes were nicknamed "Mortar Magnets"
by the besieged Marines. A C-130 is shown under attack. Many planes were
damaged during the airlift in both landing and air drops but surprisingly
few planes were destroyed throughout the siege. Helicopters, used to supply
the hill positions around Khe Sanh, had a much higher destruction rate.

When you have selected a portion to go to, you will see "Return To Vietnam Airdrop History" at the top and bottom of each menu frame. Do not use your "Back Button" made into your browser. Use the "Return To Main Menu" selection. The "Back Button" causes you un-necessary time back-loading Photos. |
